It has been an astonishing 71 weeks since my last post on here, I'm sorry Live Journal, I had forgotten you, partly due to myspace taking some of my time, and also due to me not really having anything I cared to type.
So here goes the updates, I'm sure I'll leave something out, but lets do it. Me and Meaghn got married in March of 07, Lily Michelle Smith, was born 10/23/07, I left CompUSA one day before they closed their doors for what looks like a long career with Lowes. I hired in with Lowes as a seasonal hardware dept associate (Seasonal meaning, Temp through the busy season) After being there for a few weeks I started to see how different Lowes was compared to everywhere else I've worked, They say what they are going to do, and actually do it. I did a lot research on Lowes, and where I could with the company. I decided to stick around with Lowes, so I began to purse a full time regular position, which I received after about 2 months. Going forward with Lowes, and making more money than I had ever before I began working my way up, I applied for 4 Team Leader positions, and was placed as the TL of the Tool Dept. about 5 months after joining the company. I was told by my Ops manager when he offered me the job that I'm the Team Leader, but they need me to step up and be the Department manager unofficially and without the pay that went along with the title. With plans to actually become a dept manager next, I immersed myself into the position, I gave it everything I had, and learned as much as I possibly could.
I began taking over Tools after they had not had a Team Leader or Manager that cared about anything for the better part of a year. There were many issues I faced going in, first off I had a newly transferred associate who had been with the company far longer than I, so right away he started to fight me on taking direction, Which I dealt with basically with no support from my manager, We ended up working out our differences and became a good team, then of course they transferred him out. Christmas time was coming, and thus the busiest time of the year for tools, since they are a popular gift item. My merchandising and organizational skills were put to the test, and I succeeded with high sales, and high turnover rates of product. At this same time I was tasked with Training the Live Nursery specialist to be a tool associates (Our District manager believes that we don't need a plant specialist outside in the winter, so he moved them to tools in all his stores for 3 months)
She was nervous at first, but we ended up being a great team, she learned a lot, and I can honestly say she's the best associate I've had the pleasure of managing at Lowes. My biggest accomplishment however was fixing freight flow issues, and reducing department shrink. Which I set a goal from day one, to cut our Shrink number from $7000.00 to $3500.00 or 1/2. Mission accomplished from Sept. to Feb. Our inventory numbers came back at $3300, $200 less than my goal. I got s $200 bonus for that, which was cool and unexpected.
On the home front during this time Lily was born, and we became parents for the first time. It's been a lot fun, stressful at times, but not as bad as I thought. We take tons of pictures and try to be there for every single moment. Turns out I make pretty damn cute kids, Meaghn helped too, but I'm taking most of the credit on this one. Lily is so amazing, she started sleeping all the way through the night after only 2 weeks, she held her bottle on her own when she was only a month old, she began smiling and laughing at about 2 months, and has been all smiles since. Lily is a natural at everything she does, We started her on solid foods early because she demonstrated desire to eat after watching us, the kid loves fruits and vegetables, now we just need to keep that going so she'll be healthy for life. Lily crawled at 6 months, 5 feet the first time from me to Meg, and the next day she had it mastered, She started clapping her hands and waving bye bye at the same time. At 7 months she's become very vocal, she can also recognize me and meg, and says ma ma, and da da on a regular basis when she sees us. As of this typing she turned 9 months old recently and has celebrated that milestone with Standing up on her own, though she hasn't taken a step without holding on yet, but I know thats coming soon.
We also moved back in April, and bought brand new living room furniture and some other home stuff. We're now in a very nice apartment, 1200 sq feet, and we're on a lake, and the first floor. We are planning to stick around here for awhile. Meaghn's lease on her 04 Saturn ended at the beginning of this year, and we bought a 2007 Pontiac G6 to replace it.
I got accepted into Lowes Manager Training Program, and was 1 of 4 that attended the 5 week class at the Burton Store. I graduated with a high score and even got personal praise and a handshake from our district manager who before that didn't even know my name without looking at the tag on my vest. Now that I'm certified I have begun posting for jobs in the are, I interviewed at the Ann Arbor store last week for Outside Garden. I didn't get the position however they decided to go with a current manager that had more experience in that department. I have another interview about 6 hours from now at the Flint store for the Plumbing/Electrical department, which I know nothing about, but I know I can learn it quickly.
Thats really all I have right now, Credit is bad, can't afford bankruptcy, but we're going to keep working at it, and I still plan to be quite rich in the future.
Again LJ, I'm sorry I didn't post for so long, I will do my best to visit here at least once a month.
