[Current Music |Mushroomhead - Never Let it Go.]

So for some reason I don't feel like doing anything tonight. Don't want to watch any TV, don't want to play any games, All I can seem to do is think about the past, listening to old favorite songs, and remembering when I first listened to them. So decided to post.

5 years ago... I had recently moved out of my parents house, after a fight with my dad. I was dating a girl I had met online named Alicia. She was a cool goth/rock type girl that I really liked, and thought we had a lot in common. That didn't work out, and I took it kinda hard, but I didn't let anyone know what was going on with me at the time.

Living on my own in a trailer I had taken from a friend with the intention to pay later. My place became the party place, and I loved it. I had a lot of fun on those nights. Including 2 drunken hookups that I'll never forget. They were friends of mine, and it was never anything more than sex, but it was still awesome. All this partying going on and all, and I was pretty much dying on the inside, I spent most of my time while not at work, in a drunken state, including times when I was alone. The climax of my "alcoholic Era" was Christmas of 2003. We had a huge snowstorm, and all my friends were with the families. I was stuck, car covered in 12 inches of snow, and no real desire to even try to visit my family, I stayed home, and drank a gallon of Vodka, and then next day after how I felt, I realized that I was killing myself, and that it wasn't my time yet. I stopped with the drinking (except for parties and stuff on occasion).

This time was right about the time I first joined up with Live Journal, which is cool, cause I don't really have to relive everything in my mind, because I have a record of it.

That's it for this edition of "looking back"

[Current Music |The Past - Sevendust w/Dautry]

In my last post I mentioned I had an interview 6 hours later at the Flint store for Manager of Plumbing and Electrical. it was about 30 hours after that interview that I got a call with an offer. They offered me $32,000 base, plus sales bonuses and comissions. I have the potential to make between 36-40k a year in this position.

I started just over a week ago, and have already been largely accepted at the new store, I was greeted by my crew with open arms, they treated me as a savior, a light, guide through the dark.

I've got 4 departments, Rough Electrical, Lighting, Rough Plumbing, and Fashion Plumbing. 2 Team leaders, 1 sales specialist and 3 Customer service people. all of them are older, with the exception of Gary the sales specialist, he's a couple years younger than me I think.

So far its been pretty interesting, one thing I noticed right off the bat is that I'm the man now. I don't have anyone coming to check on me every 5 minutes, People come to me now for guidance and direction, they want me to tell then what to do. One thing that has been a little bit of a struggle for me is that I'm so used to doing everything myself, now my job is to make others do the work, and make sure they get it done right, and on time.

Officially my job function is to Manage sales and merchandising standards within my assigned areas. I have a shit ton of paperwork that needs to be done weekly, but somewhat shockingly my team leaders are very hands on with whats going on and do much of the very paperwork I'm responsible. I'm really excited going in, The drive to Flint is a little much, but I like it for the most part, I get alot of good music listening in during those 45 mins, and I love going 85mph to see how fast I can get there.

In other news, Meaghn is changing jobs as well, she is going to be the Lead Teacher in the Preschool room at her day care. For the last 3 years she had been the Lead Toddler Teacher, she was ready for a change, and I'm glad she's getting a chance to do something different. Meaghn has wanted this position all along, since she started working there over 5 years ago.

News from Lily's world, She walked about 5 ft last night, and is getting better, I would say in a week she'll be all over the place.

Til next time.

Where does the time go? [Jul. 31st, 2008|12:06 am]

[Current Music |Crossfade - Colors]

It has been an astonishing 71 weeks since my last post on here, I'm sorry Live Journal, I had forgotten you, partly due to myspace taking some of my time, and also due to me not really having anything I cared to type.

So here goes the updates, I'm sure I'll leave something out, but lets do it. Me and Meaghn got married in March of 07, Lily Michelle Smith, was born 10/23/07, I left CompUSA one day before they closed their doors for what looks like a long career with Lowes. I hired in with Lowes as a seasonal hardware dept associate (Seasonal meaning, Temp through the busy season) After being there for a few weeks I started to see how different Lowes was compared to everywhere else I've worked, They say what they are going to do, and actually do it. I did a lot research on Lowes, and where I could with the company. I decided to stick around with Lowes, so I began to purse a full time regular position, which I received after about 2 months. Going forward with Lowes, and making more money than I had ever before I began working my way up, I applied for 4 Team Leader positions, and was placed as the TL of the Tool Dept. about 5 months after joining the company. I was told by my Ops manager when he offered me the job that I'm the Team Leader, but they need me to step up and be the Department manager unofficially and without the pay that went along with the title. With plans to actually become a dept manager next, I immersed myself into the position, I gave it everything I had, and learned as much as I possibly could.

I began taking over Tools after they had not had a Team Leader or Manager that cared about anything for the better part of a year. There were many issues I faced going in, first off I had a newly transferred associate who had been with the company far longer than I, so right away he started to fight me on taking direction, Which I dealt with basically with no support from my manager, We ended up working out our differences and became a good team, then of course they transferred him out. Christmas time was coming, and thus the busiest time of the year for tools, since they are a popular gift item. My merchandising and organizational skills were put to the test, and I succeeded with high sales, and high turnover rates of product. At this same time I was tasked with Training the Live Nursery specialist to be a tool associates (Our District manager believes that we don't need a plant specialist outside in the winter, so he moved them to tools in all his stores for 3 months)

She was nervous at first, but we ended up being a great team, she learned a lot, and I can honestly say she's the best associate I've had the pleasure of managing at Lowes. My biggest accomplishment however was fixing freight flow issues, and reducing department shrink. Which I set a goal from day one, to cut our Shrink number from $7000.00 to $3500.00 or 1/2. Mission accomplished from Sept. to Feb. Our inventory numbers came back at $3300, $200 less than my goal. I got s $200 bonus for that, which was cool and unexpected.

On the home front during this time Lily was born, and we became parents for the first time. It's been a lot fun, stressful at times, but not as bad as I thought. We take tons of pictures and try to be there for every single moment. Turns out I make pretty damn cute kids, Meaghn helped too, but I'm taking most of the credit on this one. Lily is so amazing, she started sleeping all the way through the night after only 2 weeks, she held her bottle on her own when she was only a month old, she began smiling and laughing at about 2 months, and has been all smiles since. Lily is a natural at everything she does, We started her on solid foods early because she demonstrated desire to eat after watching us, the kid loves fruits and vegetables, now we just need to keep that going so she'll be healthy for life. Lily crawled at 6 months, 5 feet the first time from me to Meg, and the next day she had it mastered, She started clapping her hands and waving bye bye at the same time. At 7 months she's become very vocal, she can also recognize me and meg, and says ma ma, and da da on a regular basis when she sees us. As of this typing she turned 9 months old recently and has celebrated that milestone with Standing up on her own, though she hasn't taken a step without holding on yet, but I know thats coming soon.

We also moved back in April, and bought brand new living room furniture and some other home stuff. We're now in a very nice apartment, 1200 sq feet, and we're on a lake, and the first floor. We are planning to stick around here for awhile. Meaghn's lease on her 04 Saturn ended at the beginning of this year, and we bought a 2007 Pontiac G6 to replace it.

I got accepted into Lowes Manager Training Program, and was 1 of 4 that attended the 5 week class at the Burton Store. I graduated with a high score and even got personal praise and a handshake from our district manager who before that didn't even know my name without looking at the tag on my vest. Now that I'm certified I have begun posting for jobs in the are, I interviewed at the Ann Arbor store last week for Outside Garden. I didn't get the position however they decided to go with a current manager that had more experience in that department. I have another interview about 6 hours from now at the Flint store for the Plumbing/Electrical department, which I know nothing about, but I know I can learn it quickly.

Thats really all I have right now, Credit is bad, can't afford bankruptcy, but we're going to keep working at it, and I still plan to be quite rich in the future.

Again LJ, I'm sorry I didn't post for so long, I will do my best to visit here at least once a month.

Later.

Its been quite awhile [Mar. 19th, 2007|12:30 am]

I haven't updated this thing since December, just haven't felt like messing with it.

Lots of exciting news, Me and Meaghn got married, it was a really awesome wedding I think. Everyone said they had a good time. We decided not to go to Florida for the honeymoon, instead we went to Frankenmuth for 2 days, and then came home. We are using our wedding money to move, and get new furniture and stuff for the house, rather than spend it on vacation.

In other news, Meaghn is going to have a baby in October. It wasn't planned, but it wasn't not planned. We were like, if it happens it happens. And it happened. I'm going to be someones dad, lol.

In other news, We are moving to another apartment in Waterford, for $20 bucks less a month, we are getting twice the space, and a smaller, quieter complex in the middle of a quiet subdivision, it will be awesome. We are moving on Friday/Saturday.

In other bad news. I'm losing my job in the next 90 days. CompUSA is closing 60% of their stores in the country, including 9 out of 10 in Michigan. Its not anything I did wrong, or because I didn't perform well enough, its simply they are just closing us, and we have no other stores to transfer to. 10,000 people out of work. I'm optimistic though, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Lowes have already called my boss asking for resumes and interviews. So we'll see what happens with that.

Thats it for now. Later.

Monthly Update I guess. [Dec. 16th, 2006|01:36 am]
rockmetalguy
I don't have alot to update really. My life has basically become the same day, everyday. I get up, go to work, come home, spend time with meaghn (if shes not asleep yet) Then I play my MMORPG, that I've become addicted to. (ragnarok online) I joined up with a guild, and every night we are either exploring some new dungeon, or helping a guildmate level up, or looking for rare items. Its a pretty fun game, I'm finally starting to get rich, and getting good Items. My Knight is a level 57, I also have a level 30 Merchant so I can sell things without having to be there. I have a lvl 20 Mage, but its so hard to lvl up mages, that I basically don't even try anymore.

Wedding is getting closer, I'm pretty excited, but at the same time I'll be glad when its over. I want to start calling Meg, my wife instead of finace, I hate that word.

Another milestone birthday coming up in a week or so, well Tuesday I guess. I'm not excited to be turning 25, with the exception that my car insurance premium dropped almost $500 bucks a year. Kick ass there.

Looking forward to going to school so I can finally make some good money. I don't even care to be rich really, I just want to be able to deal with a situation like a broke down car, or unexpected bill without stressing out over it. I also wish to stop saying I can't afford it, even when its something small like a meal from McDonalds. I need need need to buy some of the stuff I sell at work, it drives me nuts to sell those powerful computers, and then I come home to this Crapaq Presuckio that is 3 years old.... Crapaq Presuckio I think I just made that up, and I love it.

I guess thats it for now.

Maybe I'm getting too old [Nov. 19th, 2006|02:22 am]
rockmetalguy
It wasn't that long ago that I was well known to many of my friends as "The Party" I was the party on many nights, I would get drunker, louder, and be more fun than anyone else. Seems like those days are over.

Tonight I called the police to complain about the noise going on upstairs from our apartment, 10-15 punk kids getting drunk, high, being loud, jumping off the balcony, screaming at people driving by, ect. I should be used to it, as it happens every single weekend, sometimes 2 nights in a row. It has taken every ounce of self control to not go up there and bash everyone of their heads in with my 9 Iron (I could plead insanity and blame Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) So after over a year of trying to be cool about it, since I used to be the partier too, I couldn't take it anymore, I called the cops, they came out 20 mins later and after 45 mins of talking to them, they arrested 2 17 year old girls, for possession, and being intoxicated minors. and all that.

Do I feel bad, no. The only thing I'm feeling is that by stepping out and doing something, I have changed their lives, maybe for the good, maybe for the bad. Had those girls not been arrested tonight who knows how their lives would have turned out, maybe they will straighten up and fly right, or maybe this will be one of many nights in jail for them, either way, I forced them to make a choice tonight, and thats pretty powerful. Think about it.

Letter from a customer to my managers [Nov. 17th, 2006|09:55 pm]
rockmetalguy
I got called into the office today, and was handed a copy of this note, it made my day as I was thanked by my management and asked to keep up the awesome work. Read on if you wish.

---------------------------------------------------------
To the Managers of CompUSA in Orion Township, Michigan.

I recently shopped in your Orion township store and wanted to share my experience with you. Upon entering team member Jamie greeted me immediately. He asked in a very pleasant and upbeat voice if he could help me. I said that I was looking for a laptop computer. Jamie pointed me in the direction of the computer department, and said he would page a sales person to help me.

When I entered the computer department, Doug asked if I was the one interested in a laptop computer. I replied in the affirmative. He said that he was finishing up helping another customer, and would be with me in just a moment. Within seconds, Doug was back with me, apologizing for the delay. He introduced himself to me, and asked for my name. After getting my name, Doug welcomed me to CompUSA.

Doug greatly diagnosed my needs, asking what I would be using the laptop computer for. I explained that it would be used in my home, primarily by me. As Doug and I were discussing speed, memory, and other capabilities I might be interested in, Doug was showing me different laptop computers. I told Doug that I had seen a new Toshiba Satellite advertised that had caught my attention. He said, "smart choice", and showed me several different Toshiba Satellite models. We discussed rebates that were being offered on the different models, and what might benefit me best in screen size, etc.

After receiving much information on the products, and services offered by the store, I decided to buy the system. Afterwards Doug, graciously, thanked me for coming into the store. He walked me up to the front of the store, and said he hoped he could help me again in the future. He gave me an ad for the store before I left.

I just wanted to let you know that I received world class service in your store today, Doug is a wonderful representative for CompUSA. He is polite, friendly, professional, and experienced. He treated me with respect, and made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely go back to CompUSA for any of my computer needs. I would definately ask for Doug, It was a great experience, and I thank you for your time.

Sincerely
-Elise Chambers

------------------------------------------------------------------

Thats right... and I'm the number 1 salesman 4 weeks in a row too, in all aspects of the store.

November Update [Nov. 13th, 2006|12:37 am]
rockmetalguy
[Current Music |Alterbridge - Shed My Skin]

I don't think I posted at all in October. Thats ok, I was busy working, and planning for the future.
I've finally decided to go back to school. I'm going to be going to Microsoft IT Academy in Southfield, to get my Certifications for MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional), MCSA (Microsoft Certified Server Administration), and MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)

Its a 6 months program, that is required to you job placement in the range of 40K-60K per year. In addition to that program, upon completing my certifications and getting an IT job, I'm going to go back to school, for at least an associates degree in business, or information technology. I'm really excited, and can't wait to start. I will have more info on this later.

Getting ready file for bankruptcy soon, gotta get a fresh start on things before the wedding, then after we get married, we're going to do things the right way, get good credit built up, and live happily ever after.

New job is going good, I'm currently the #1 sales guy in the store for 3 weeks running, not bad for only being there for 6 weeks so far. They have already given me a 2nd department to manage. I'm going to managing Desktop computers/Monitors, and now All of the Apple Land (Apple/Mac Products) I'm working my way to becoming a Lead, basically a sales supervisor. I'm not going crazy into management for compUSA, I'm going to go to school and get a real job.

thats all I have now.

P.S. if anyone reads this and has received a wedding invite. We are not registering for gifts, as we need Money, and or Visa/Mastercard Gift cards. We decided that we would rather have our friends and family collectively help pay for our wedding/honeymoon costs rather buy us a gift, cause we really don't need anything, we have been building our home together for almost 2 years now. Thanks.

Updates and such [Oct. 4th, 2006|01:14 am]
rockmetalguy
[Current Mood |tiredGettin there]
[Current Music |Flaw - My Letter]

Things are quite different from when I posted last, I got a new job at Comp USA as a Technology Mentor, basically my job is to help customers find what they are looking for and explain things if they don't understand. I decided awhile ago to leave Walmart. The biggest problem with walmart is they make alot of promises, basically building up alot of hope for something thats never going to happen. I found out that my manager had been promising management positions to a couple of my co-workers, the problem with that is, she was telling us all the same thing, that it was going to be ours soon, they must have thought that we never talked to each other. There are a few other reasons why I left. Attitudes are horrible there, everyone hates it there, they all want to leave, but won't, everyone hates everyone else, and there is tons of backstabbing going on. I can't be around that kinda place. I guess I was just bored, everyday was exactly the same in electronics, customers would come in, ask a bunch of questions, take an hour of my time, then not buy anything, and management would bitch cause sales were down. It was like walking on eggshells alot too, the manangers were ALWAYS looking for reasons to write people up, and in alot cases if they couldn't find any reasons they made shit up. So after 1 year and 1 month I said goodbye to the friends I had made, and informed management that I was leaving, and going to Comp USA.

I will be on a more stable schedule at Comp USA, which will give me a chance to go to school, which both me and Meaghn plan to do after we get married.

Our TV died on Friday night, Meaghn is a TV addict so she got a Bestbuy card on Saturday morning and we went on a shopping spree. Got a Kick ass 27inch Toshiba TV, nothing HD or LCD, but it works for as much as we watch TV. I got an Ipod Nano, a couple of DVD's, and CD's. Meaghn got several DVD's, CD's and a new Digital Camera which we will actually share, so thats cool. I was going to get a DVR, but I wanted a DVD-RW with an 80gig Hard Drive and they didn't have any, just bigger ones that were like 400 bucks, so I decided not to.

Thats about it for now. Now that I'm working at CompUSA and getting bonuses and such, I expect to be getting cool toys more often, plus I get them at cost, which kicks ass.
